Consulting rooms for a medical centre

Four new consulting rooms, admin space and storage for a busy medical practice

The Barrack Lane Medical Centre is a rapidly growing GP Practice in central Ipswich. It badly needed to extend its clinical space and applied to the NHS for funding.

A design by KLH Architects included four new consulting rooms and additional storage and administration spaces. Stowe Building Contractors was recommended by KLH and was successful in the competitive tendering process required by the NHS.

The big challenge was that the practice needed to remain operational throughout the build yet the site was in close proximity to patient areas. The care needed went well beyond normal health and safety concerns as the comfort and consideration of patients was a priority for the practice.

As the build evolved changes were requested and we were able to complete a number of other small jobs for the client. One example is that our joinery workshop was able to design and build bespoke secure cabinets for the storage of confidential patient records. Located in the foyer waiting area the cabinets provide a discrete storage facility with the reverse side providing space for display screens and healthcare information.

“Working with Stowe Building Contractors Ltd was a pleasant experience for everyone.  The meetings to discuss the contract were well organised and changes by us were readily accepted.  The team that worked within the build was well managed by the foreman.

They were extremely accommodating to patients and practice staff alike. Patient care and safety was a high priority with them as well as trying to deliver on time to minimise any disruption.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company for use within the NHS or any other organisation.”
