From Post to Pillar

Our bespoke joinery workshop creates the kind of custom fixtures and fittings that give a project a distinctive character. There is a great example in the workshop at the moment where our craftsmen are creating two bespoke portico pillars for one of our projects.

The pillars are each made from 12 pieces of the sustainable African hardwood saplele.  Our craftsmen calculated the angles needed to create the 12 segments and machined them. The segments were bonded together to make a dodecagon (12-sided polygon). They built a special oversized laith to craft the dodecagon into a round taper finishing them on the laith with sandpaper.

The perfectly smooth, round, tapered hardwood pillars will soon be installed at a project near East Bergholt.
